It's Been A While

If you've been keeping up with this blog - let's face it, there's not a lot to keep up with - and you've been wondering what life-consuming activities have been holding me captive, I'll have you know I tend to be on too many projects and not enough projects, at all times. Of course, university buys up most of my waking hours, but I tend to opt out of a human sleeping schedule in favour of me-time. This comes in the form of writing, which probably isn't very surprising for anyone who knows me.

On top of editing my soon-to-be-published novel (keep an eye on April, folks!!), I spent 2018 working on a story for my best friend in a little journal that I took with me everywhere I went. This story, it would seem, has inspired yet another means of procrastination in me in the form of a Choose Your Own Adventure-style game. It's more like interactive prose than a video game, and the setting belongs to the story for my best friend. Most interestingly, it came out of nowhere, but I embraced it. Ever since, it has become my go-to choice for relaxation between essays and editing.

The fella above - I've named him Jack Kennedy, one of two potential protagonists in the horror mystery of Rothell Manor, the game - has not only joined me on my first step toward developing a game (a prospect rather than a set destination in my future, as I have hardly dipped my little toe in the vast waters), but also helped me in the smaller task of figuring out light sources in my art. Generally, a fun dude.

All in all, I feel this drawing adequately sums up my life these past few months while I've busied myself with a number of things that I don't necessarily need to be doing, nor even that I should be doing. All that matters to me is that I can do these things. The road to success is forked and winding, and no one can  predict where they'll end up by the end of it, if ever it does end. All I know is I'm happy with the direction in which I'm headed.
